An update, an invitation, and an ask!

Dear Neighbor,

It's been great to see many of you this summer for outdoor storytime, despite the heat!

An Ask
I'm looking to connect with more District students to advise me on my work to advance literacy across the District. May I get your help to invite District students to share their perspectives and experiences with me? I'd appreciate the opportunity to learn from students and to get more advice about the literacy investments on which we should double down. My e-mail is allister.chang1@dc.gov and my phone number is (202) 735-7062.

An Update
DC must do more to protect students from sexual assault at schools. Earlier this year, I cosigned a letter with Ward 2 Councilmember Brooke Pinto calling for more protective mechanisms against sexual assault. At our last Public Meeting, my colleagues and I at the DCSBOE unanimously passed the Resolution (SR22-6) championed by my Ward 8 colleague Dr. Reid, asking the Executive office to be more transparent and responsive in preventing instances of misconduct.

An Invitation
The DCSBOE is inviting DC residents to participate in a focus group. Your participation in this in-person focus group will help the State Board dive deeper into how you experience the education system in DC and what improvements you would like to see.

Date and Time: Wednesday, August 10 from 6ā€“8 p.m.
Location: 1301 K Street NW, Washington, DC 20005 (near McPherson Square or Farragut North Metro Stations)

Please let me know by August 4th at 4 p.m. if you would like to participate in the in-person focus group.

Thank you!

Allister
